WELDERS - Work Hard! Play Hard!
Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals is accepting resumes for an EXPERIENCED Red Seal/ Journeyman Welder for a safety-sensitive FIELD position on a rotating 14/14 rotation directly in the mine site in the Wood Buffalo Region (Alberta Oil Sands) that is motivated, committed and wants to grow with us.
An excellent Welder will be:
- A strong self-starter
- An enthusiastic team player
- Experienced, competent and able to repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain mobile heavy duty equipment in open-pit mining
The people in this position will be expected to work 12 hours per shift on a 14/14 rotation, alternating sets between days and nights. Accommodations are provided in a camp setting, with chartered flights to site available from either Calgary or Edmonton. It is the Welder's responsibility to get to the most convenient hub location.

Work at the Heart of Canada’s Energy Sector
Based in the Alberta Oil Sands (Fort McMurray/Wood Buffalo Region), you’ll work on a 14/14 rotation in a safety-first environment. With 12-hour shifts, alternating sets between days and nights, you’ll rack up 80 regular hours and 88 overtime hours per scheduled rotation.

The Job
- Check dozers, haul trucks, excavators and other heavy construction and mining equipment for proper performance
- Inspect equipment for defects and malfunctions
- Repair and replace defective parts, components and/or systems
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and that it meets or exceeds manufacturer's specifications
What We Need From YOU:
- A desire to make a difference and take pride in your work
- A minimum of 3 years experience working with large construction and mining open pit equipment,
- MUST include in depth experience with CAT, Komatsu, John Deere and Hitachi
- Excellent troubleshooting and technical skills
- Superior welding aptitude
- Shop and/or field work experience
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
- Collaborative communication style
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A set of tools required for welding position
- MUST be able to complete a Respirator Fit test and don a mask at any time while at work, which also means compliance with facial hair requirements to ensure a complete seal for the mask
As part of our Hiring Process, YOU will be asked to:
- Provide a minimum of a Class 5 Driver's License and clean Driver's Abstract
- Provide a criminal record check
- Complete drug and alcohol screening with a negative result
- Complete a fitness evaluation related specifically to your position
- Provide copies of current certifications (if you do not have any of the training required to be on site, we will provide it for you)
