Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s building, guest rooms, common areas, equipment, and exterior property to ensure a safe, clean, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for guests and employees. This is a hands-on position requiring someone who is dependable, self-motivated, able to work independently, and comfortable responding to a variety of maintenance needs in a busy hotel environment.

The Maintenance Technician will perform routine preventative maintenance, respond to maintenance requests, complete repairs and upkeep, and assist with maintaining the overall appearance and functionality of the property.

Availability Requirements

• Must be available to work 5 days per week, including weekends.
• Schedule may vary based on hotel occupancy, maintenance needs, and operational requirements.
• Must be available to respond to urgent maintenance issues when required.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.

Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Property & Exterior Maintenance

• Maintain the overall appearance and cleanliness of the hotel’s exterior property.
• Pick up litter and garbage throughout the property daily.
• Empty exterior garbage cans and ensure garbage areas are kept clean.
• Pull weeds and maintain flower beds and landscaped areas around the building.
• Keep entrances, sidewalks, parking areas, and exterior areas clean and free of debris.
• Assist with snow and ice removal as required during winter months.
• Identify and report exterior hazards, damaged surfaces, lighting issues, or other safety concerns.

Guest Room & Building Maintenance

• Complete maintenance requests in guest rooms, public areas, staff areas, and back-of-house spaces.
• Inspect and repair or replace items such as:
• Light bulbs and light fixtures
• Door hardware, locks, hinges, and closers
• Faucets, showerheads, toilets, and other plumbing fixtures
• Furniture and room fixtures
• Curtain rods, towel bars, shelving, and other hardware
• Wall, ceiling, and flooring issues
• TVs and other basic room equipment when required
• Respond promptly to guest and staff maintenance requests.
• Complete room maintenance following guest departures or when rooms are taken out of service.
• Ensure completed work areas are clean and presentable.

Plumbing & Mechanical Maintenance

• Perform minor plumbing repairs and troubleshooting.
• Repair or replace faucets, toilets, showerheads, drains, valves, and other basic plumbing components.
• Identify leaks and take appropriate action to prevent property damage.
• Have a working knowledge of HVAC systems, furnaces, thermostats, and ventilation equipment.
• Troubleshoot basic heating, cooling, and ventilation issues.
• Work with outside contractors and service technicians when specialized repairs are required.

Preventative Maintenance

• Complete scheduled Preventative Maintenance (PM) inspections throughout the hotel.
• Regularly inspect guest rooms, public areas, mechanical areas, equipment, and exterior property.
• Identify potential maintenance issues before they become major problems.
• Document maintenance inspections, repairs, and outstanding issues.
• Follow established PM schedules and ensure required tasks are completed on time.
• Monitor equipment for unusual sounds, leaks, damage, or performance issues.

Deep Cleaning & Property Upkeep

• Perform deep-cleaning tasks throughout the hotel as required.
• Clean mechanical and maintenance areas, vents, fixtures, walls, floors, and other areas that require additional attention.
• Assist housekeeping with deep-cleaning projects and seasonal cleaning.
• Keep maintenance rooms, workshops, storage areas, and workspaces organized and free of hazards.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all hotel safety procedures and applicable workplace health and safety requirements.
• Identify and report potential safety hazards immediately.
• Ensure fire exits, emergency equipment, and access areas remain clear.
• Assist with routine inspections of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signs, smoke detectors, and other safety equipment, and report deficiencies.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing maintenance tasks.
• Follow proper procedures when using chemicals, tools, ladders, and equipment.
• Secure work areas when completing repairs to protect guests and employees.

Inventory & Tools

• Maintain an organized inventory of maintenance supplies, parts, tools, and equipment.
• Notify management when supplies or replacement parts are required.
• Help maintain appropriate stock levels of commonly used maintenance items.
• Properly care for and maintain hotel-owned tools and equipment.
• Ensure tools and supplies are safely stored when not in use.

Additional Duties

• Assist with hotel projects, renovations, and property improvement projects as required.
• Assist contractors and outside service providers with access to equipment and maintenance areas.
• Help prepare rooms or areas for painting, repairs, renovations, or other projects.
• Assist with furniture moves and room setup when required.
• Respond to emergency maintenance situations, including water leaks, heating issues, power-related concerns, and other urgent building issues.
• Complete other maintenance-related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Skills

• Previous experience in hotel, commercial, residential, building, or general maintenance is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
• Working knowledge of furnaces and HVAC systems is an asset.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine when professional service is required.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-kept property.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to prioritize multiple maintenance requests.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Comfortable interacting professionally with hotel guests and employees.
• Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely.
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach, and work in various positions for extended periods.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Must be comfortable working on ladders and performing tasks at various heights.
• A valid driver's license is an asset.

Pay: $19.17-$37.76 per hour
