Position Title: Community Helpers Coordinator
Reports To: Director of Community Programs
Pay Grid: $21-$25/hour
Department: Community Programs
Hours: 37.5 hours/week (Temporary Position until March 31, 2028)

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:
Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration
- University Degree or Diploma in Human Services/Social Services/ Social Work
- Standard First Aid, CPR-Level C
- Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable), within the last six months
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a class 07 automobile insurance coverage business use (or pleasure with occasional business use) and a minimum of
$2,000,000 in liability coverage
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Experience facilitating with groups
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Organization and time management skills
- Exceptional customer service attitude and skills
- Knowledgeable in mental wellness challenges and community supports
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?
Reporting to the Director of Community Programs, the Community Helpers Coordinator, is responsible for administering a peer support program focused on mental health promotion and suicide awareness. Our goals is to build the capacity of youth and young adults in our community to help others access formal support and to address stigma related to help- seeking.
The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to:
- Build community capacity for mental health promotion
- Provide young people and our community with accurate information and resources related to mental health and suicide prevention
- Facilitate training sessions with up to 30 people
- Able to deal with difficult or sensitive situations and complaints with confidence
- Ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for participants
- Maintain a strength-based approach that inspires participants to engage in self- development and change
- Maintain knowledge of relevant services and community resources
- Engages with schools, community agencies, and other organizations to maximize services and resources to participants
- May lift or move items up to 50 lbs
