Custodial Services Supervisor
Full-Time, Permanent 12Month Position
Hours of Work:
8 hours per day, Monday to Friday
40 hours per week
About the Role
Medicine Hat Public School Division is seeking a Custodial Services Supervisor to provide leadership and oversight of custodial operations across the Division. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, this position is responsible for supervising custodial staff, coordinating custodial and general maintenance activities, and ensuring highquality custodial services are delivered across all MHPSD facilities.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, school administration, and external contractors to ensure schools operate in a safe, clean, and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign, supervise, and participate in the work of a large custodial team across multiple locations
- Support recruitment, selection, transfers, assignment changes, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions for custodial staff
- Provide orientation, onboarding, and ongoing training for custodial employees
- Deliver custodial procedures training and assist with required safety training
- Attend meetings with Directors, Principals, and staff to provide operational advice and input
- Ensure custodial standards are maintained at all schools and conduct quality assurance inspections as required
- Manage custodial equipment, machinery, and supplies
- Monitor inventory levels and approve custodial supply orders
- Assist with development and monitoring of the custodial budget
- Coordinate staffing to minimize operational impacts of employee absences
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Division standards
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and ongoing supervisory development
- Complete other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5th Class Power Engineering Certification (ABSA)
- Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience
- Minimum two (2) years of custodial work experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proven ability to assess custodial operations and staff performance across multiple locations
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- General office environment with frequent travel (approximately 50%) to schools and Division facilities
- Ability to meet physical demands including standing, bending, lifting, working at heights, use of ladders and tools, and operating custodial equipment
- Use of custodial machinery, tools, PPE, cleaning chemicals and supplies, computer, phone, and vehicle
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver's license and clean abstract
- Clear criminal record check with vulnerability sector and child intervention record check
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
Position Details
- Direct Reports: Supervise 15 direct reports and support a total custodial team of approximately 65 staff.
- Financial Responsibility: Supports the development and monitoring of the annual custodial budget.
- Salary grid: $ 75,006 - $ 91,131. Full benefits package with Health Spending Account and pension available after 1 year of service.
