Electric Motor Systems Technician - Apprentice

Then Southern Rewind Inc. has an opportunity for you! We are looking for an Electric Motor Systems Technician – Apprentice to join our growing team. Under the direction of the Shop Manager, the Electric Motor Systems Technician – Apprentice will be responsible for meeting the high standards of workmanship and efficiency while working in a busy shop environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Technicians with dismantling / assembling electric motors, generators, and pumps
  • Ensure proper use of required personal protective equipment at all times
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on all equipment and tools
  • Maintain a clean working area free from dirt and debris between tasks and end of day
  • Assist Technicians with off site service calls
  • Bolt, screw, clip, weld, solder, or otherwise fasten parts and components together using hand and power tools and equipment
  • Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces using abrasive tools or machines
  • Lubricate, clean, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools
  • Position and install parts, subassemblies, and accessories using hand tools, power tools, and other aids like overhead hoists
  • Maintain electric motors and related equipment used to power machinery and equipment in various applications as required
  • Remove and replace shafts, bearings, and other components, referring to service manuals as required
  • Wind and install various types of coils for electric motors and generators and reinstall them as required
  • Closely monitor machines for signs of problems while ensuring output is meeting set specifications as required
  • Assist in any other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma with some post-secondary education in a related field
  • Mechanical assembly/repair experience preferred
  • Certification or licenses appropriate to the electric motor rewind industry an asset
  • Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and tools required in various assembly processes an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry / time entry purposes
  • Ability to learn quickly and handle high-stress workloads during busy season
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently
  • Ability to operate requirement equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to lift objects, walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • Demonstrated ability to operate material-handling equipment
  • Ability to work overtime if required

Additional Requirements

  • Employment Security Check is required
  • Valid Driver’s License and provision of Driver’s Abstract is required
  • Forklift operation certificate
  • WHMIS and First Aid certifications

Job Type: Full Time

Schedule: Monday – Friday

Hourly Rate: $20 - $28 DOE

Note: Applicants holding Journeyperson certification are also encouraged to apply. Wage is commensurate with experience.
