Full job description
The Avara Group provides property care, vegetation management, and rural maintenance services throughout Southern Alberta. We are committed to safe operations, reliable service, and maintaining high standards in the field.
We are currently hiring a Fire Watch / Spotter to assist with roadside and ditch mowing operations in Cypress County.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor mowing operations for fire hazards and unsafe conditions
- Follow and support a tractor operating a 15’ offset batwing mower
- Maintain constant awareness of surrounding field and roadside conditions
- Read and follow rural maps and route layouts
- Watch for smoke, hot spots, and mechanical issues during operation
- Communicate clearly with operators and supervisors by phone/radio
- Perform basic equipment checks and assist with field support tasks
- Respond quickly and calmly in high-pressure situations
- Follow all county and site safety procedures
Requirements:
- Ability to read maps and navigate rural areas
- Strong focus and awareness under pressure
- Mechanically inclined with basic equipment knowledge
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-oriented
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Able to work long hours during peak mowing season
Assets (preferred):
- Experience around agricultural or heavy equipment
- Previous fire watch, spotting, or roadside work experience
- First Aid Certification
- Radio communication experience
Pay: $15.00-$20.00 per hour
