Herzog Services of Canada, Ltd. has Ultrasonic Rail Testing Opportunities throughout the Eastern, Western, and Central Provinces of Canada. Fluency in the French language is desirable but not required. HSI operates a fleet of highly specialized test vehicles that perform ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT, NDE, NDI) of rail for the nation’s railroads. 2-3 man crews are deployed to test specific routes that cover broad geographic areas.

This career opportunity offers paid training, competitive salary starting at $67,000+ annually with the potential to earn up to $95,000 annually, and per diem of $200/day. At Herzog we go the extra mile to meet our customer’s needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Drive a Hy-rail equipped rail testing vehicle on and off railroad tracks. Valid license with AIRBRAKE endorsement required.
  • Assist the chief operator in performance of automated and manual ultrasonic rail testing.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance.
  • Train to become a chief operator.
  • Be on-call and prepared to travel at moment’s notice.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements:

  • Extensive travel and time away from your home area within the contiguous 48 states are to be expected. We strive to place employees within reasonable distances from their home area, therefore, tours have the potential to last 5-week periods with 2 days home in between each tour.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A valid driver license with clean driving record and AIRBRAKE endorsement.
  • Previous railroad experience would be beneficial but is not required.
  • Previous NDT / NDE / NDI experience is preferred but is not required.
  • Fluent in French is preferred, but not required.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
  • Must attend a week long CROR training course as mandated by our Railroad customers. This position is contingent upon the successful completion of the course. The candidate must read and comprehend a significant amount of information and complete a written exam with a pass rate of 90% or higher

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification.
  • Subject to Driver's Abstract report review.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position
  • This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements for this position.

  • Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances while maintaining balance.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds overhead; occasionally carry weight up to 50 pounds up to 10 feet.
  • Regularly push-pull with forces up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, holding with forces up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly ascend and descend steps with a height of 18 inches.
  • While seated, frequently look over left and right shoulders with 180 degrees of movement.
  • Frequently bend, crouch, kneel, stand, and sit for extended time.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
