The Centre for Innovation (C4I) at Medicine Hat College (MHC) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to lead the project "Solar Energy Data Collection and Electrical Energy Consumption Monitoring and Display" and join our team as a Data Integration Software Developer. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing software solutions to collect, integrate, and present data from multiple solar energy sources and monitor the power consumption of various energy consumers. Additionally, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to receive training on applied research. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of renewable energy and technology, contributing to the advancement of sustainable energy solutions.

A little about the role:

  • Data Collection: Design and implement software to retrieve data from various sources, including but not limited to six different solar providers. Data will also be collected from over 80 circuits that provide power in order to establish the relationship between power generation and power consumption. This will involve utilizing APIs provided by the providers or employing web scraping techniques where necessary.
  • Integration: Develop robust mechanisms for integrating data collected from solar providers with other sets of data obtained from power monitoring equipment. Ensure seamless integration and compatibility across different data sources.
  • Visualization: Create graphical dashboards and cloud-based web services to display collected data in a user-friendly and intuitive format.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for all software development activities, including codebase, Application Programming Interface (APIs), and system architecture. Facilitate knowledge transfer and ensure ease of maintenance.

Details:

As a successful applicant you'll have:

  • Two-year information technology diploma required.
  • Expertise in software development, API access, and web development, along with experience in deploying applications in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with data integration techniques and energy/power systems would be beneficial.
  • Effective documentation skills for maintaining comprehensive records of software development activities.

This is a position funded by an external program and the eligible candidate must be:

  • Between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive) at the start of the internship.
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons granted refugee status in Canada.
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations.

Terms of Employment

  • Terms of Employment: 14 weeks starting May 27, 2024
  • Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
  • Wage Rate: $25.00 per hour (inclusive of stat pay and vacation pay)
