In this role, you will have the opportunity to help develop policy and position papers, briefings, and provide input to strategic advice for senior management on science policy issues related to the agriculture and agrifood sector, and support international and/or national scientific collaboration engagement with key partners and organizations. Duties include providing strategic guidance and objectives, developing written briefing material and delivering oral briefings, working with AAFC scientists to identify and administer opportunities for external collaboration and attending departmental, interdepartmental, national or international meetings to advance the strategic objectives of Science and Technology Branch and AAFC. You will be part of a dynamic team that works with AAFC scientists and you will work with key stakeholders across various branches, other government departments and/or industry representatives, academia, multilateral organizations.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff three (3) full time permanent positions; one (1) in British Columbia, one (1) in the Atlantic Region and one (1) in Quebec.

Qualified candidates will also be placed in a talent pool to be used for staffing similar permanent or temporary positions in the future within AAFC. The skill specialization(s), work location, language profile, and security clearance requirements will vary according to the position being staffed.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, they may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology, or statistics.

Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization do not necessarily have to be part of a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience :
Experience developing or maintaining collaborative relationships with agriculture sector stakeholders including, but not limited to: industry, academia, Indigenous groups, government provincial and/or federal departments, government organizations outside Canada, or multilateral organizations.
Experience conducting analysis of strategic issues and presenting options and recommendations to support senior management (Director level and above) decision-making.
Experience preparing written reports, presentations or other written briefing material for senior management (Director level and above).
Experience managing conflicting priorities across various concurrent responsibilities, and producing results under tight timelines.
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams with diverse reporting relationships.

Experience :
Experience facilitating strategic sessions involving government and industry stakeholders.
Experience providing advice and making recommendations to senior management (Director and above), in any of the following areas: data governance, data policy, data strategy, data literacy, data analytics, and data management.
