Cypress County is a rural municipality in the southeast corner of Alberta. The county’s approximately 7,800 residents live on farms, acreage subdivisions and in 10 small urban communities. We have an exciting opportunity for a Seasonal Full-time Flagger to join our team.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Flagger works as part of a team involved in gravelling and oiling Cypress County’s road infrastructure. Duties include directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction zones using hand signals, signs, or flagging devices, communicating effectively with construction crews, equipment operators, and the public to ensure safety, assisting with the setup and removal of traffic control devices, barriers, and signage, monitoring work zones for potential hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately, supporting heavy equipment operation and paving activities by coordinating traffic flow to prevent accidents, and maintain clear visibility and adherence to safety standards at all times during shifts.

Our ideal candidate is dependable and reliable; physically able to stand and walk for long periods of time and work outdoors in a range of weather conditions for extended periods; able to work in a team environment, often without supervision; able to understand and apply safe work practices at all times; able to listen to and follow directions as well as communicate effectively with others. Compensation for the position is approximately $23 per hour.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED)
  • Class 5 operator’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Prior experience in construction or traffic control is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, paving processes, and construction site safety protocols is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Certification in traffic control or flagging is advantageous but not required; training can be provided.
  • Must adhere to all safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times.
