About the Position
The Facilities Management department at Lethbridge Polytechnic requires three (3) outdoor enthusiasts to join their team as Grounds Workers for the summer months. We offer an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in maintaining and enhancing the campus grounds. This casual position provides support to the campus grounds-keeping team in various tasks related to landscaping, maintenance, and beautification of the campus environment.
Incumbents will be assigned 40 hours of work per week.
Position Details
Key Responsibilities:
  • Grounds Maintenance: Assist in the upkeep of lawns, gardens, and athletic fields by mowing, edging, weeding, and pruning as needed.
  • Landscape Enhancement: Participate in planting flowers, shrubs, and trees to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the campus grounds.
  • Irrigation System Operation: Assist with the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of plants and turf areas.
  • Trash Removal: Collect and dispose of litter and debris from outdoor areas to maintain cleanliness and tidiness.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate landscaping equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers safely and efficiently under the supervision of experienced staff.
  • Pathway Maintenance: Help maintain walkways and pathways by sweeping, blowing, and applying necessary treatments for weed control.
  • Special Projects: Participate in special projects as assigned by supervisors, which may include campus beautification initiatives, event setup, or other related tasks.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrate ability to work alone and in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, physically capable of performing the job duties.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance is preferred.

 

Salary
AUPE Class Level 2 Step 1 at $17.34 per hour
