We have an exciting opportunity for a Temporary General Labourer – Public Works to join our team for the 2026 summer season. This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in municipal operations and public works (Start date is contingent upon acceptance of the Canada Summer Jobs grant and will be approximately May 4, 2026).
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Public Works Operations Supervisor, the General Labourer will support a variety of maintenance and operational tasks across Public Works. Duties include assisting with small building maintenance such as painting, cleaning, and general upkeep, supporting parts procurement, delivery, receiving, and organization, conducting parts and product inventory, performing vehicle detailing, cleaning, and delivery, assisting with document filing, sorting, and general office organization, and completing other related labour or support tasks as required.
Our ideal candidate is reliable, safety‑minded, and eager to learn about Public Works operations while contributing positively to the team.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will ideally have:
· Strong work ethic and willingness to perform hands‑on labour tasks
· Ability to work safely and follow direction
· Good communication and teamwork skills
· Basic organizational skills for handling parts, inventory, and documents
· Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with acceptable drivers abstract
· Previous labour or maintenance experience is an asset but not required
· A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered
ELIGIBILITY – CANADA SUMMER JOBS
To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet the Canada Summer Jobs program requirements:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee protection
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at time of hire
- International students are not eligible, as per program guidelines
(These eligibility criteria are established by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program.)
