POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Wind Turbine Technician, you are responsible to arrive to work fit for duty and conduct yourself in a safe and professional manner. Through teamwork and cooperation, you will aid in the construction of Siemens Gamesa 5MW-145 wind turbines, near Medicine Hat area. Supported with experienced leadership and trained employees you will be tasked with reviewing and revisiting assembly manuals, filling out inspection documentation and checklists to ensure all work is done safely and to the highest MasTec standards. Expected start date would be June 30, 2022. Candidates will be required to use their own transportation to and from the site.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
  • Complete daily and weekly equipment/ tooling/ rigging inspections
  • Assist in drafting FLHA to identify and mitigate, if possible, hazards present on worksites daily
  • Install wind turbine components by following turbine installation procedures
  • Complete mechanical preparation of the components on the ground
  • Conduct visual inspection for damage of the components and ensure safe lifting operations prior to lifting
  • Rig the components with turbine specific rigging devices
  • Establish strong communication with crane operators
  • Use and care for taglines to maintain control of the loads
  • Bolt and torque the components sections using hydraulics, torque and tensioning tools
  • Operate equipment such as telehandlers, skid steers and manlifts
  • General cleanup of work area

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Previous experience of working in the construction industry would be an asset
  • Experience using hand and power tools including torque tooling would be an asset
  • Previous experience of operating telehandlers, skid steers, and manlifts are an asset but not required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for promoting and living out MasTec Canada’s 6 Core Values
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. is required
  • Ability to climb
  • Ability to work at heights (up to 400 ft) with good ergonomics, work may take place on ladders, platforms, and cramped spaces with constant standing and kneeling
  • Valid safety tickets are an asset
  • Good hand-eye coordination is required
  • Ability to follow instructions and make good decisions is required
  • Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner
  • Ability to handle emergency situations and manage work pressure and stress
  • Must have an acute awareness of surroundings including under, above and around you
