About the Client and Role
We are looking for an experienced Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic to support our client's underground operations at a mine site located in the North West Territories. This is a contract assignment at a Fly-in/Fly-out facility on a 3 week on, 3 week off rotation, and will require day and night shifts. Flights are arranged and accommodations and food are provided. Experience with CAT, MacLean, or other off-road and underground equipment is required. Underground experience is an asset, but we’re also open to people with strong heavy equipment experience who want to move into underground work. Pay is $60/hr plus OT after 8 hours per day (works out to $70.00/hr over a 12 hour day).
Key responsibilities for this role will include:
- Troubleshoot and repair of heavy-duty and medium-duty mining equipment such as rock-trucks, scoops, bolters.
- The disassembly/overhaul of engines or engine components, transmissions, drive systems components and other assemblies
- The diagnosis of equipment problems; identifying and replacing worn or broken parts as required, and making all necessary adjustments and alignments
- Preventative maintenance
- Keeping the shop clean
- Other duties as required
Requirements for this role are:
- A valid Red Seal or Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certification with a minimum of 4 years of experience in repair and service of heavy equipment, both in the shop and in the field.
- Proven track record in safe work practices and quality workmanship
- Ability to work alone and unsupervised in remote areas
- Focused, energetic and organized with superior attention to detail and a sense of urgency
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Motivated and hard working with a professional attitude
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications
- Language: speak, read and write English
- Previous mining experience is an asset
