About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Assistant, the Communications Officer is responsible for development of the divisions’ presence through social media, websites and various print tools. This position will also plan and provide support for initiatives and activities related to internal and external communications. Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week; Occasional evening and weekend work will be required for various events and campaigns. The position will require the successful applicant to drive to and attend various events as well as visit division schools throughout the workweek.
This position will increase awareness, understanding, and support of education in Medicine Hat Catholic to promote its overall goals and priorities.
Duties
- Act as the primary administrator of social media for the division (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Assist with planning parent, staff, student, and public engagement campaigns & initiatives
- Provide graphic design support to division personnel and schools as requested preparing a wide variety of print material for both internal and external audiences, including newsletters, brochures, notices and marketing materials
- Coordinate advertising including development of creative and booking of ad space
- Plan, implement and provide communications support for division fundraising initiatives and special events
- Establish and maintain division visual identity standards throughout all communications
- Develop and write content to engage audiences with social media tools
- Coordinate media requests for the division
- As part of a team, develop and implement a communications plan for the school division and its schools
Qualifications
- Committed to being a model and witness to Christ-centered education values and beliefs
- Excellent skills in communication, leadership, problem-solving, writing and editing, and planning and coordination are required
- A related degree or diploma in communications, public relations, or journalism; an equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered
- Excellent understanding of social media, with a diverse range of computer-related skills
- Proven leadership ability with a minimum of 2–4 years of communications-related experience
- Experience using and creating on platforms such as Canva, Adobe, and/or other similar platforms
- Knowledge and understanding of ATIA and POPA is essential; school board governance and legislation relating to public bodies is an asset
