We are looking for a dependable, safety-focused Labourer – Solid Waste to support daily operations in Solid Waste Collection and Landfill Services. This is a hands-on, front-line role involving manual labour, light-duty vehicle operation, customer service, and support for landfill and collection activities.
What you'll do
In this role, you will:
- Perform manual and semi-skilled work within Solid Waste Collection and Landfill facilities.
- Drive light-duty vehicles related to the delivery and maintenance of solid waste carts/bins and landfill maintenance activities.
- Complete and document routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and repair.
- Identify and report customer service issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with Solid Waste and Landfill teams and perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring
- Ability to read maps, learn routes, and adapt to changing assignments.
- Knowledge of safe light-duty equipment operation and basic maintenance responsibilities.
- Understanding of Solid Waste and Landfill bylaws, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn City software.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or on a team.
- Ability to perform heavy physical work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or high school equivalency.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Vehicle Operator's License with a satisfactory (6 demerits or less) driving record.
- Possession of a Class 3 Driver's License with airbrake endorsement is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to perform sustained heavy physical work.
- This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use.
