Precon is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as Maintenance Technician.

Location: Coalhurst, AB
Hours: Facility operational hours are typically 5:00am-8:00pm. Working hours for this position will therefore align with these operational hours, with staggered shifts shared among the team (i.e., start times between 5:00am-10:00am). Given the nature of the role, the candidate must also be prepared to work overtime, be on-call, and provide weekend coverage as needed, sharing these responsibilities with the rest of our maintenance team.
Compensation: Commensurate with previous experience.

Precon’s Maintenance Technicians play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our production machinery, facility, and mobile equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. In collaboration with the maintenance team, this role focuses on proactively maintaining our plant, machinery, and equipment to ensure optimal performance, directly supporting the quality and success of our products.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Work safely; understand and comply with all Precon’s health and safety program, OH&S, and any other applicable legislation.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on all manufacturing equipment. Investigate irregularities and malfunctions. Repair or replace defective parts.
  • Perform routine plant preventative maintenance.
  • Ongoing equipment improvement and analysis.
  • Read blueprints, schematic drawings, and technical/wiring diagrams.
  • Assemble and commission new machinery and equipment.
  • Perform general building maintenance tasks, which may include painting, door repair, minor plumbing, etc.
  • Organize and document all maintenance processes.
  • Participate in meetings, i.e., morning team Toolbox meeting/stretch, weekly Health & Safety meetings, and other related tasks and duties as directed.

What you Bring to this Role - Requirements:

  • A minimum of one of the following Journeyperson certifications: Industrial Electrician, Millwright, or Welder.
  • Minimum 5 years experience troubleshooting and repairing equipment and large machinery in an industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Strong communication skills and work ethic; you can interact effectively with others to divide and conquer weekly and daily tasks; you can also work independently to get things done.
  • Active tickets and competency with: Aerial Work Platform, Fall Protection, Confined & Restricted Space, Forklift Operation, Overhead Crane Operation.
  • Must possess reliable transportation, as well as valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Able to work overtime, weekends, and on-call as needed to support our teams.

Additional Requirements:

  • Prior experience in carpentry, heavy-duty mechanic/heavy equipment, industrial welding, or other mechanical applications would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient with computers, programs such as Microsoft Office and maintenance software.
  • Valid WHMIS 2015 certificate.

Work Conditions and Context further Details:

  • Travel: Valid class 5 driver's license, clean driving record, and readily available transportation to and from work are required (Precon is located outside of Lethbridge). Clean driving record is required for use of shop truck, to pick up or drop off local parts, supplies, or small equipment for repair. Occasional out-of-area and overnight travel may also be expected for training purposes.
  • Conditions: We are a manufacturing/production facility; work will take place in a manufacturing environment with overhead and other hazards. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (i.e., hard hat, high-visibility clothing, steel-toed boots, fall arrest harness, hearing protection, respirator, etc.). Work will involve conditions of heat, cold, dust, noise, and wind, and will be performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and temperatures. Will also involve climbing ladders, working at heights (on ladders/aerial work platforms), lifting of 55 pounds, and working in awkward positions on machinery/equipment.
  • Equipment and Machinery Operation: This position will be required to operate various hand/power tools (table saw, drills, grinders) and hoisting and lifting equipment. Once certified and competent, this individual will occasionally operate other equipment such as forklifts, overhead crane, etc.
  • Technology: Use of technology, phones, computers, programs, etc. is required.
