Outreach Intake Worker (1 Part time, 16 month contract)

The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society supports families and individuals who
are experiencing family violence by providing them with safe shelter, education,
advocacy, and access to community resources. We are currently looking for an
individual to join our outreach team.

Duties Include (but are not limited to):
• Provide preventative and intervention services on calls relating to family
violence.
• Collaborate with the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) as part of our
Safe Families Intervention Team (SFIT) program, including discussion with
patrols as needed, and calling referrals.
• Complete the assessment and intake of individuals accessing services.
• Provide support, advocacy, resources/referrals, and crisis intervention.
• Facilitate support groups and community education presentations.
• Actively contribute to a healthy, safe, and supportive environment.

Our ideal candidate will have:
• Post-secondary education in the human services field, and two years of
relevant work experience is preferred.
• Knowledge and understanding of family violence.
• Familiarity with community resources to assist with referrals as necessary.
• Experience in the intake and assessment of clients.
• Group facilitation and public speaking experience.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Current Standard First Aid/CPR and ASIST training.
• Valid Alberta driver’s license.
• Must successfully pass the Medicine Hat Police Services screening process,
including polygraph.

Start Date: As soon as possible. Contract concludes October 2027.
Rate of Pay: $22.93/hour. Extensive benefit plan after successful completion of 3-
month probation period. Employer funded RRSP. 3 weeks of paid vacation.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, approximately 24 hours/week. Hours of work
vary between 7AM – 4:30pm. Flexibility required based on programming.
Located at Phoenix Safe House or the Medicine Hat Police Station.
