Job Qualifications

  • Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Journeyman certificate would be an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience.
  • Food Safe certificate required.
  • Ability to communicate.
  • Protects the confidentiality of information about residents, families, staff, and Cypress View Foundation.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English. Must be able to follow oral and written directions.
  • Experience working with the elderly would be an asset.
  • Able to work early mornings and occasional evening shift work, including weekends and holidays.
  • Able to do extensive standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, lifting, and capable of the requirements of the physical demands document.
  • May be required to complete tasks in areas of extreme temperature (freezers).
  • Able to prioritize and organize.
  • First Aide/CPR is an asset.

Responsibilities

Food Preparation:

  • Prepares food items in accordance with standardized recipes and the established daily menu.
  • Utilizes batch cooking methods for optimal quality at all times.
  • Prepares and serves quality food items in accordance with standards for optimal temperatures, appealing appearance, appropriate texture, flavor, color, aroma, and established portion control.
  • Prepares meals for special diets in accordance with current, approved diet guidelines.
  • Adheres to food safe protocols related to refrigeration, cooking/heating food to proper temperatures (time/temperature guidelines).
  • Document’s temperatures of food and takes corrective action as required.
  • Check’s menus in advance and takes out necessary items for thawing.
  • Operates commercial equipment such as ovens, steamers, deep fat fryer, grill, stove top, mixers, meat slicer. Etc.
  • Store’s food items and leftovers in an efficient and food safe manner following safe food handling, rotation, and storage procedures.
  • Labels and dates all leftovers.

Performs other Related Duties:

  • Follows work procedures as outlined in daily work schedules.
  • Operates and cleans a variety of food service equipment such as mixers, meat slicers, food processors, toasters, and steam tables.
  • Performs assigned cleaning duties as outlined in the daily cleaning schedule.
  • Prepares, set up and deliver and retrieve catering carts as requested.
  • Reads and familiarizes her/himself with Food Service meeting minutes, new and revised policies and procedures and other Cypress View Foundation correspondence.
  • Handles immediate customer service concerns/complaints/compliments related to food service.
  • As required and following specified guidelines; completes staff replacements when a food service employee is unable to report for duty as scheduled.
  • Provides direction to the Dietary Aide on routine daily work processes as directed by Food Service Manager.
  • Refers problems and unfamiliar situations to the Food Service Manager.

Other Duties:

  • Read and familiarize self with Food Service meeting minutes, new and revised policies and procedures, and other Cypress View Foundation correspondence.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Participate in safety and sanitation inspections of work areas as requested by Supervisor.
  • Work as a member of a team and effectively communicate with them.
  • Adhere to the routines and checklists.
  • Be knowledgeable with the Emergency Procedures including fire procedures, emergency panel, WHMIS, Health & Safety, Protection of Persons in Care Act, and other procedures as informed by management.
  • Adhere to company policies.
  • Attend education sessions and assist with orientation if requested.
  • Report supply and equipment needs to management.
  • Report equipment damage or issues to maintenance immediately.
  • Report resident and family concerns in a timely manner by Progress Notes and advising your Manager.
  • Other duties as required by direction of your Manager.

Job Type: Casual

Pay: From $23.63 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Medicine Hat, AB T1A 7W8: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
