Description
Full job description
WHO WE ARE
Bad Guy Motors is not your average shop. We build custom trucks, diesel performance builds, fabricated bumpers, flat decks, running boards, and proprietary coatings under our own product lines. We are a licensed fabrication, diesel performance, and mechanical shop based in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and we take our craft seriously.
Our team operates with autonomy. We don't babysit, we don't micromanage, and we don't do cookie-cutter work. If you want to punch in, punch out, and collect a paycheque without caring about what you build, this is not the job for you.
If you live and breathe automotive, love performance builds, and want to actually learn something every day, keep reading.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a Service Writer and Sales hybrid who can own the customer experience from first contact to closed job. You will be the voice of BGM on incoming leads, the person who qualifies customers fast, builds trust quickly, and gets jobs onto the floor.
This is not a receptionist role. We need someone who can have a real conversation about a diesel build, explain what we do and why it costs what it costs, and confidently close without being pushy.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Respond to incoming leads across Meta/Facebook Messenger, phone, and email
- Qualify leads fast, identify serious buyers, and move on from tire kickers without hesitation
- Work an active pipeline of 200+ qualified leads from day one
- Build and send estimates in ShopMonkey, our shop management platform
- Follow up consistently until a job is closed or disqualified
- Coordinate with technicians on job status, timelines, and incoming parts
- Maintain accurate job status updates on every active work order
- Hit a 70% close rate on qualified leads
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required:
- Genuine passion for performance trucks, diesel, or custom automotive builds
- Prior experience in service writing, automotive sales, or a customer-facing sales role
- Ability to have a confident, knowledgeable conversation with automotive enthusiasts
- Fast follow-up instincts, you understand that slow response loses jobs
- Comfortable working independently without being told what to do every hour
- Strong communication skills, phone, Messenger, and in person
Assets (not required):
- Experience with shop management software (ShopMonkey or similar)
- Background in diesel performance, fabrication, or mechanical service
- Experience closing larger ticket sales
No formal automotive certification required. We care about what you know and how you carry yourself, not what paper you have.
COMPENSATION
- Hourly base rate based on experience
- Commission on all personally closed jobs
- Entry level / proving period: $18-22/hr + 2% commission
- Experienced closer: $22-26/hr + 3% commission
- Performance threshold: monthly revenue targets unlock additional commission rate
- Full-time or part-time considered
The right person will earn well here. Commission is uncapped. If you can close, you will make real money.
A NOTE ON LOCATION
We are based in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Medicine Hat is a mid-sized city with a low cost of living, a strong trades culture, and easy access to the outdoors. If you are in Calgary, Edmonton, BC, or Saskatchewan and looking for a change, we want to hear from you. Relocation is on you, but we will make it worth the move.
HOW TO APPLY
Send us a message and tell us three things:
- Your relevant experience in service writing or sales
- What you drive or what builds you are into
- Why you want to work at Bad Guy Motors
No generic cover letters. If you cannot tell us why this specific shop interests you, we are probably not the right fit for each other.
Pay: $17.35-$31.00 per hour
Application question(s):
- Do you have experience in a customer-facing sales or service writing role?
- What draws you to the automotive performance or custom build industry specifically?
- We have 200+ leads in our pipeline right now. Walk us through how you would prioritize and attack that list in your first two weeks.
Work Location: In person
