Are you energized by the opportunity to shape the future of facility technology across a complex, multi-site organization? This role is ideal for a skilled technical professional who thrives at the intersection of building systems, security technology, automation, and digital infrastructure. As the Specialist, Facilities SystemsTechnology, you'll play a key role in modernizing and safeguarding the systems that support safe, efficient, and reliable City operations. Bring your expertise, judgement, and forward-thinking approach to projects that have lasting community impact.
We're a team that believes how we work is just as important as the work we do. Grounded in our values - Own It, Team Up, Be Curious, and Service with Care - we're committed to delivering meaningful impact for our community while supporting each other along the way.
What you'll do
- Help create safer, smarter, and more resilient facilities through effective security, automation, and building technology solutions.
- Influence the long-term direction of facility systems by supporting technology standards, lifecycle planning, and modernization strategies.
- Improve system reliability and performance by identifying risks, resolving complex issues, and recommending practical solutions.
- Support informed capital planning and operational decision-making through technical insight and systems expertise.
- Lead the successful delivery of technology upgrades and security enhancements that align with organizational needs and corporate standards.
- Strengthen collaboration across departments by translating complex technical information into clear recommendations and actions.
- Contribute to secure and compliant operations by supporting appropriate system access, monitoring, audit practices, and sensitive data handling.

You'll be a trusted technical resource for areas such as access control, surveillance, intrusion alarms, building management systems, energy systems, and communications infrastructure. You'll also work closely with Facilities Management, IT, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure systems are integrated, secure, reliable, and aligned with operational needs.
This position requires independent judgement, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to balance technical requirements with practical business outcomes. The work may take you into secure areas, mechanical spaces, rooftops, and operational sites, and may include involvement in after-hours response or urgent operational decision-making when required
What you bring
- Strong technical curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Confidence making sound recommendations and decisions in complex situations.
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to build relationships across departments and with external partners.
- Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A proactive approach to identifying risks, solving problems, and improving systems.
- Professionalism, discretion, and good judgement when working with sensitive systems or information.
- A commitment to quality, consistency, safety, and reliable service delivery.
Qualifications
- Diploma in building technology or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in building technology, security systems, automation, or infrastructure systems.
- Professional designations (e.g., PMP, IFMA, BOMA or related) are considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
- Ability to obtain enhanced security clearance, including polygraph, in accordance with policy requirements.
- This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use.
