  • Size, select, and procure equipment, and oversee installation and commissioning of new and upgraded systems.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of instrumentation, electrical, and control (IEC) documentation, including instrument databases, specification sheets, drawings, logic diagrams, and cause-and-effect matrices.
  • Manage assigned projects through all lifecycle stages, from initiation to closeout, ensuring clear scope definition, effective planning, and safe, successful execution.
  • Apply Management of Change (MOC) and Manufacturing Capital Management Process (MCMP) procedures to assess, approve, and implement temporary and permanent plant changes.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to site teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to instrumentation, electrical, and control/safety systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and maintain clear, consistent communication to ensure alignment on project progress, priorities, and expectations.
  • Support site turnarounds and collaborate with other technical disciplines on projects and improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in hazard assessments, “what-if” reviews, operational risk discussions, and root cause analyses to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Contribute to Responsible Care®, safety, and reliability initiatives, including active participation in behavioral-based safety programs, audits, and observations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., Canadian Electrical Code, ISA, IEC), and maintain awareness of related discipline requirements (e.g., ABSA, ASME, API).
  • Build strong working relationships across the global organization, share knowledge with team members, and contribute to continuous improvement and departmental objectives.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Industrial Controls, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, control systems, and electrical design within an industrial environment.
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta or registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and actively progressing toward P.Eng. designation.
