Looking for an opportunity where you can build experience, work with people, and make a positive impact in your community? The City of Medicine Hat is seeking energetic and approachable Recreation Attendants to support the fitness floor at the Big Marble Go Centre, helping create a safe, welcoming, and positive experience for patrons.

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in fitness, recreation, health and wellness, or customer service. You'll provide support and guidance to patrons, help maintain a safe and welcoming fitness environment, and develop valuable communication, customer service, and recreation skills.

We're a team that believes how we work is just as important as the work we do. Grounded in our values - Own It, Team Up, Be Curious, and Service with Care - we're committed to delivering meaningful experiences for our community while supporting each other along the way.

How you'll own it

  • Help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for patrons using the fitness floor.
  • Monitor fitness areas and provide guidance to patrons on the safe and proper use of fitness and recreation equipment.
  • Be a visible and approachable resource for patrons using cardio, weight, and other fitness areas.
  • Provide information and direction regarding fitness facilities, equipment, programs, services, and facility operations.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to patron concerns, incidents, conflicts, or emergencies.
  • Assist with equipment set-up, maintaining clean and organized fitness spaces, and reporting equipment or facility issues.
  • Work collaboratively with fitness, recreation, operations, customer service, and other facility staff to support a positive patron experience.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive recreation environment that encourages healthy and active lifestyles.
  • Complete assigned operational tasks and contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the fitness floor.

What you bring

  • An interest in fitness, recreation, health and wellness, or working with people.
  • Strong customer service skills and a friendly, approachable attitude.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and interact positively with patrons of different ages and experience levels.
  • The ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused when responding to questions or challenging situations.
  • A willingness to learn and confidence to provide direction and assistance when needed.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy recreation environment.
  • Reliability, initiative, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and welcoming recreation spaces.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as operationally required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain.
  • Previous experience working in recreation, fitness, sport, customer service, or community programming is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the safe and proper use of fitness equipment is considered an asset.
  • This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
  • For applicants 18 years of age or older, a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check are required as a condition of employment.
