Medical Office Assistant (General Surgery & Orthopaedics)
We are seeking a highly organized and personable Medical Office Assistant to support a busy practice working with both a General Surgeon and an Orthopaedic Surgeon. The ideal candidate will have a friendly demeanour, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
This role involves frequent liaison with hospital staff and family physician offices, so professionalism and relationship-building skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner
Answer telephone calls, respond to inquiries, and schedule appointments
Liaise with hospital staff and referring physician offices
Verify patient information, including insurance details, and collect applicable payments
Maintain and update patient records accurately within EMR systems (including Connect Care)
Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence (mail, fax, and email)
Coordinate and organize office workflow and documentation
Monitor and maintain office supply inventory
Perform general administrative duties such as filing, scanning, and faxing
Qualifications:
Office Administration diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a medical office or similar administrative role preferred
Familiarity with medical terminology; experience in surgical or specialist offices is an asset
Proficiency with EMR systems, including Connect Care
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a busy environment
