Assistant SHIPPING/RECEIVING Manager
Mook Fabrics Ltd is a large wholesale/retail fabric supplier servicing and distributing throughout Canada and the United States.
We have an opportunity for an ambitious and self-motivated individual seeking employment as a Shipping Receiving Senior Supervisor. This is a permanent, full-time position.
It is the purpose of this job to ensure the effective and efficient overseeing of the Shipping and Receiving Department.
Key responsibilities:
· Assist the Shipping Manager in supervising and supporting the shipping team.
· Support training and development of shipping department staff.
· Working directly with customers daily.
· Required to work on the floor to meet shipping outcomes.
· Supervise, train and lead subordinates assigned in the shipping department
· Collaborate with warehouse and operation managers to optimize processes
· Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
· Use software (e.g. NetSuite, FedEx Ship Manager, etc.) to track, check, prioritize and route orders
· Work with carriers to obtain and analyz pricing
· Work with carriers and brokers to move product to its destination
· Oversee and assist with the preparation of all important documents such as advanced shipping notice, pick slips, bills of lading and commercial invoices.
· Operate forklift and assist with the movement of shipments between shipping/receiving platforms and storage/work areas.
· Support the Shipping Manager in process improvement initiatives and workflow optimization.
· Inspect labels, barcodes and other features of completed orders
Qualifications:
University degree or equivalent education in operations management, business, transportation, logistics or warehousing is an asset.
· Supervisor related certificate or appropriate years of experience in a leadership/ Supervisory role.
· Forklift certification is an asset but not required
· Valid driver’s license
Skills and Knowledge:
· Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to follow instructions and assist in achieving team goals.
· Strong leadership skills and ability to support team members.
· Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
· Physically capable (able to lift 50 lbs).
· Ability to scale up and down ladders.
· Able to provide instruction.
· Understand Employment Standards rules and regulations
Experience:
· 3 - 5 years Shipping/Receiving OR Warehouse experience is preferred.
· Previous supervisory experience.
· Experience with developing and maintaining Excel spreadsheets.
· Experience in directing and evaluating subordinates.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and alternating Saturdays
