Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals is expanding rapidly, and we’re looking for experienced CAREER-FOCUSED Equipment Operators to add to our teams in the Alberta Oil Sands.
Equipment Operators are responsible for the safe operation and routine maintenance of various types of mobile heavy equipment and attachments in the Oil Sands Region, including tow trucks, haul trucks, loaders, graders, and machinery with heavy components.
Operators work directly on active mine sites and must be knowledgeable of, and strictly adhere to, all mine site rules and regulations. A strong understanding of safe driving practices within mine environments is essential.

As an Equipment Operator, you will be expected to:
- Safely and efficiently operate the various pieces of equipment in safety-sensitive environments, including Pacific trucks, dozers, tow haul, graders, etc.
- Participate in, promote, and adhere to safety initiatives and protocols as mandated by the company, the clients, and legislation
- Accurately complete all necessary paperwork, including daily pre- and post-trip inspections, field-level assessments for each job
- Be knowledgeable and compliant with legislated, company, and client requirements and standards
- Correctly assess and give attention to the space and obstacles present
- Manage routines to maximize efficiencies and meet schedules
- Perform daily housekeeping of the equipment, reporting deficiencies immediately
- Be proficient in verbal and written communication, in the English language
- Report to the worksite as directed, following instructions given
- Conducts all business in a professional and respectful manner

Work at the Heart of Canada’s Energy Sector
Based in the Alberta Oil Sands (Fort McMurray/Wood Buffalo Region), you’ll work on a 14/14 rotation in a safety-first environment. With 12-hour shifts, alternating sets between days and nights, starting at 5:30, you’ll rack up 80 regular hours and 88 overtime hours per rotation.
What We’re Looking For:
- A desire to make a difference and take pride in your work
- 5+ years of experience operating equipment (Pacific truck, dozer, Manitou, tow truck, haul truck, loader, grader, etc.), including operating a manual transmission and tri-drives
- Class 1 license with Air Brakes, with a clean 5-year commercial driver’s abstract (minimum of 3 years’ of commercial history as a Class 1 driver)
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, understand, and follow legislation, policies, and procedures
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Be able to adapt to changes in environments quickly (weather, traffic, road conditions)
- Knowledge and understanding of basic equipment maintenance
- Strong mechanical background/technical training
- Ability to access all mine sites (no site bans) and drive within the mine
- Excellent Customer Service skills
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
- Able to pass a respiratory fit test and don a mask at any time, meeting the necessary facial hair requirements
- Meet fitness standards, and handle 50 lbs
