Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals is accepting resumes for an EXPERIENCED Red Seal / Journeyman Machinist for a safety-sensitive position in the shop and field on a 14/14 rotation within mine sites in the Oil Sands Region in the Fort McMurray/ Wood Buffalo Region that is motivated, committed and wants to grow with us.
Red Seal/Journeyman Machinists in the Oil Sands will earn $49.07 - $58.10/hour as a base rate. The regular scheduled rotation allows for 80 hours of regular + 88 hours of overtime.
+ 6.5% of gross earnings for hours worked

The Job
The goal of the Machinist is to provide portable line boring, welding, pin boss facing and related tasks involving the breakdown and rebuilds on shovels, dozers, trucks and excavators in the shop and in the field.
The Machinist is required to set up, properly and safely operate line boring equipment and measuring tools to complete the welding build up, fitting and related tasks with precision to complete the necessary repairs.
An excellent Machinist will be:

- Experienced, competent and able to repair, troubleshoot, adjust, machine, measure and fit mobile heavy-duty equipment and associated attachments in open-pit mining
The person in this position will be expected to work 12 hours per shift on a 14 on/14 off rotating schedule starting at 6:45 am, with the potential to alternate sets between days and nights.
Accommodations are provided and the individual will be responsible to get to Fort McMurray on their own, utilizing support from the commuter program where applicable. Transportation from the accommodations to site, return, are also provided.
Machinists will be expected to:
- Be adept in portable line boring.
- Check dozers, haul trucks, excavators and other heavy construction and mining equipment for proper performance
- Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output
- Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping
- Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues
- Inspect equipment for defects and malfunctions
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
- Quality control analysis by conducting tests and inspections of products, services or process to evaluate quality and performance
- Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages
- Monitor output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects

What We Need From YOU:
- A desire to make a difference and take pride in your work
- A minimum of 3 years experience working with large construction and mining open pit equipment
- A minimum of 3 years experience with portable line boring
- MUST include in depth experience with CAT, Komatsu, John Deere and Hitachi
- Superior mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and technical skills and the ability to work in the shop or field
- Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.)
- Ability to use precision tools to take accurate measurements
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
- Excellent knowledge of metal properties and other materials
- Outstanding critical thinking abilities, using logic and reason, to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusion or approaches to problems
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
- Collaborative communication style
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A complete set of mechanics tools up to 3/4" drive
- MUST be able to complete a Respirator Fit test and don a mask at any time while at work, which also means compliance with facial hair requirements to ensure a complete seal for the mask
- Ability to lift and manage 50 pounds without assistance
