Service Technicians and Apprentices
· Location: Lougheed ∙Stettler ∙ Olds ∙High River ∙ Coaldale ∙Dunmore
Hours
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1‑hour unpaid lunch)
- Seasonal overtime and on call as required
About the Role
The Service Technicians & Apprentices are responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining agricultural equipment in both shop and field settings. This role ensures reliable equipment performance through quality workmanship, effective troubleshooting, and collaboration with service advisors, parts, and customers to minimize downtime and support farm operations.
Key Responsibilities – Service Technician and Apprentices
· Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic issues on agricultural equipment
· Perform repairs, maintenance, and inspections in both shop and field environments
· Complete preventative maintenance and warranty work in accordance with manufacturer standards
· Use diagnostic tools, manuals, and service software to accurately identify equipment issues
· Ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality
· Perform on‑site service calls to diagnose and repair customer equipment in the field
· Communicate clearly with customers regarding repair findings, timelines, and recommendations
· Support customers during peak seasons to reduce equipment downtime
· Maintain a professional and customer‑focused approach while representing the dealership
· Accurately complete work orders, service reports, and warranty documentation
· Record parts used, labor time, and service details clearly and consistently
· Communicate with service advisors regarding job status, delays, or additional repair needs
· Work closely with Service Advisors, Parts Department, and other technicians
· Follow service schedules and assist with prioritizing work during busy periods
· Support training efforts and share knowledge with apprentice or junior technicians when required
· Follow all safety policies, procedures, and industry best practices
· Maintain a clean and organized work area, tools, and service vehicles
· Use company tools, equipment, and vehicles responsibly and report issues when identified
· Attend brand‑specific technical training as it becomes available to stay current with equipment, systems, and repair standards
· Travel as required to participate in manufacturer training sessions, courses, or certification programs
· Apply training knowledge to daily work and share learnings with the service team when appropriate
· Travel between dealership locations during busy periods to assist with increased workload and provide coverage for absent team members, ensuring service continuity and consistent standards
The duties listed above reflect core expectations but do not limit the employee from performing other tasks as assigned to support team and business objectives.
Qualifications and Skills
· Experience servicing and repairing agricultural equipment is considered an asset
· Red Seal / Journeyperson certification is considered an asset OR
· Must be registered in either the Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship or Agricultural Equipment Technician Apprenticeship program
· Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems
· Demonstrated problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Comfortable working in both shop and field environments
· Strong attention to detail with well‑developed planning, organizational, and communication skills
· Must possess an adequate set of basic starter tools suitable for agricultural equipment servicing; advanced or specialized tools may be provided by the dealership
· Strong understanding of the seasonal demands of agriculture, particularly during peak periods such as harvest, with a customer‑focused mindset that prioritizes responsiveness, reliability, and minimizing equipment downtime
· Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy seasons and changing priorities
· Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with service advisors, parts staff, and other technicians
· Ability to follow established procedures while adapting to real‑time service needs
· Valid driver’s license
· High level of professionalism, responsibility, and accountability
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and lift objects, use ladders and stairs.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. pounds frequently.
- Sufficient vision, hearing, and speech to operate a telephone, computer, and mobile device, and to communicate product information to customers.
- Ability to drive for extended periods.
- Comfortable with job-specific PPE.
