Siemens Energy is currently seeking highly talented and motivated candidates for a Wind Technician position at our Buffalo Plains wind farm. Safety and Quality form a central part of our culture, and the ideal candidate will have a strong focus on both.
The candidate will work together with a multi-disciplinary group to ensure top performance on our wind farms.
The ideal candidate has the ability to work a flexible schedule, on-call, along with the ability to analyze and resolve problems independently and efficiently. They will provide excellent service to our customers, have the ability to work on complex systems in challenging environments, and participate in the development of new field procedures and best practices.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Responsible for the service, maintenance and troubleshooting of Siemens Gamesa SG4X and SG5X wind turbines at our Buffalo Plains site near Lomond, Alberta.
- Provide excellent service to our customers by completing services and paperwork on time
- The work environment entails working inside the wind turbine enclosure at an elevated height of ~ 300 feet
- Extensive training and testing will be provided covering safety and technical job requirements
- Physical requirements of the job include but not limited to: Ladder climbing minimum 267 steps, up stair climbing, standing for long periods, walking, lifting, bending, twisting, work above shoulders, pushing, pulling, exposure to vibration, chemicals, confined spaces and extreme weather conditions
- Capable of efficiently taking on additional roles and responsibilities at an operating wind farm
What You Bring
- Demonstrated knowledge in electrical systems including such as PLC programming and converters
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment
- Strong ability to organize and plan daily/weekly work with a high level of quality orientation, ability to analyze and resolve problems independently with a high level of results orientation
- Good computer skills, is competent in the use of Microsoft platforms like Outlook and Excel
- Must be eligible to hold a valid Passport and Driver's License. Must be legally able to work in Canada.
About the Team
The Buffalo Plains team is looking for a technician to join our ranks in servicing our SG4X and SG5X platforms. We are the only site to have the new SG5X platform in North America. Extensive training and on-the-job training is provided to be able to improve your skills and development.
We have a multi-cultural team on site who are working together continuously to work safely, provide excellent customer service and maintain our wind turbines.

Job Title: Wind Turbine Technician

The candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal performance of our wind farms.
The ideal candidate is able to work a flexible, on-call schedule and analyze and resolve problems independently and effectively. They must also provide excellent customer service, be able to work on complex systems in demanding environments, and contribute to the development of new procedures and best practices in the field.
What you will bring to the company
- Provide servicing, maintenance and troubleshooting for Siemens Gamesa SG4X and SG5X wind turbines at our Buffalo Plains wind farm, near Lomond, Alberta.
- To provide excellent service to our clients by performing services and completing documents within the agreed timeframes.
- The work environment requires the successful candidate to work inside the wind turbine nacelle at a height of approximately 300 ft.
- Intensive training on safety and technical requirements related to the position will be provided and followed by examinations.
- The physical requirements of the position include, but are not limited to, climbing ladders, ascending stairs (at least 267), standing for extended periods, walking, lifting loads, performing twisting and bending movements, working above shoulder height, pushing/pulling, exposure to vibration, chemicals and extreme weather conditions, and working in confined spaces.
- Having the ability to effectively assume additional roles and responsibilities in an operating wind farm.
What you need
- Proven expertise in electrical systems, including converters and controller programming
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a team
- Excellent ability to organize and plan daily/weekly tasks with a strong focus on quality, and to analyze/solve problems independently with an emphasis on results.
- Good computer skills (Microsoft software, including Outlook and Excel)
- Eligible to hold a valid passport and driver's license; the applicant must be legally authorized to work in Canada
About the team
The Buffalo Plains team is seeking a technician to join their ranks to maintain their SG4X and SG5X platforms. Our wind farm is the only one in North America to operate the new SG5X platform. Intensive and hands-on training will be provided to allow the technician to enhance their skills and advance their expertise.
Our multicultural team on site constantly makes joint efforts to ensure workplace safety, provide excellent customer service and perform wind turbine maintenance.
